The Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies of the National University "Odessa Law Academy" has been existing since its inception. It is the main form of the academic and pedagogical personnel systematic training.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is the first academic degree acquired on the basis of Master's (Specialist's) degree.

PhD degree may be earned as a result of postgraduate studies and viva examination.

The standard PhD programme lasts for four years. However, each candidate has the right to defend his or her thesis in advance, provided that the postgraduate educational and scientific programme has been completed.

The Department of Postgraduate Studies provides instruction in the framework of the following specialities:

081- Jurisprudence; 082 - International Law;
052 - Political Science; 033 - Philosophy
Speciality 081- "Jurisprudence" has four concentrations: "Fundamental Jurisprudence", "Public Law", "Private Law and Business", as well as "Criminal Justice".

The training is carried out at public and private expense.

In accordance with the requirements of the National University "Odessa Law Academy, admission to postgraduate courses is competitive.

Admission requirements for doctoral candidates

The postgraduate programmes and curricula consist of educational and academic constituents.

The educational component, in turn, consists of four elements:
- profound knowledge of the chosen speciality;
- general scientific (philosophical) competencies;
- acquisition of the universal research and pedagogical skills;
- language competence at C1 level.

However, the scientific component includes the personal research under the direction of one or two academic supervisors and the presentation of the findings in the form of a dissertation.
