International cooperation is the most important direction of the development of the National University 'Odesa Law Academy'. This provides students and faculty with ample opportunities for knowledge exchange, research and professional development. Interaction with universities and educational institutions from other countries enriches the academic environment, promotes cultural diversity and helps to attract international students.
Coordination of activities of the University in the field of international cooperation is executed by the International Relations Office which is subordinated to the Vice-rector for International Relations.
From 1997 till 2004, a prominent Ukrainian scholar, Professor Mark Orzikh was a Vice-Rector for International Relations. His successor was Professor Vyacheslav Tulyakov, who served in this capacity from 2005 till August 2022. During 17 years of Professor Tulyakov`s tenure, our University teamed up with a number of European and American Schools. After his resignation, he was invited to serve as a visiting professor at the Charles III University of Madrid. Later on, Professor Tulyakov has become a visiting researcher of the Institute of European and International Criminal Law at the University of Castilla La Mancha (Ciudad Real) and has obtained his Visiting professorship at IE University (Madrid). In the fall of 2022, Associate Professor and PhD in Law Andrii Neugodnikov was appointed as the Vice-Rector for International Affairs.
The main objectives of the Office are:
- organising cooperation with foreign universities, research institutions, foundations, governmental and non-governmental international organisations;
- planning international scientific events (conferences, symposia, scientific and practical seminars, round tables, etc;)
- organisation of international educational student activities (summer schools, moot courts, thematic seminars, courses of foreign lecturers, language courses);
- conducting academic exchanges and organisational and methodological assistance to participants of academic exchanges;
- organisation of training for foreign students;
- protocol support of official visits to the university;
- Correspondence on international cooperation, negotiating agreements in the field of international cooperation;
- implementation of international projects;
- popularisation of the National University "Odesa Law Academy" (support of the website, participation in educational exhibitions, informing the public about the achievements of the University in the national media, placement of advertising materials about the University in foreign media, popularisation of scientific and pedagogical activities, exchange of literature with foreign partners);
- assistance to foreign students in the procedure of nostrification of documents and other issues related to studying at the University;
- organising the study of legal disciplines in foreign languages.

From 2002 to 2018, the International Relations Office was headed by Associate Professor Vadym Barskyi, and from 2018 to 2021, the Office was headed by Yuliia Astankevych. From September 2022 to February 2023, the International Relations Office was headed by Mykhailo Katsyn.
Since April 2023, the International Relations Office has been headed by Daria Minchenko, PhD in Law, Attorney at Law, LLM in International Commercial Law at Queen Mary University of London.
Throughout the last 25 years, more than 100 partnership & cooperation agreements have been signed with leading universities from different countries, including: Germany, USA, France, Poland, Turkey, Lithuania, Croatia, Slovenia, Sweden, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Austria, Moldova, Switzerland, Mexico, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Taiwan, Israel. This list is far from being exhaustive.
The University has become a member of the European University Association (since 1998) and the European Association of Public Law (since 2008), signed by Magna Charta Universitatum (since 2004). Since 2017 several faculties have obtained their membership status at the European Law Faculties Association and the European Law Institute.
Relations with our partners cover a broad range of international educational services. We strongly encourage academic exchanges, joined master programs, short- and long-term certificate programmes. While implementing our foreign relation's agenda, we totally fall in line with provisions of the Bologna Declaration.
The National University 'Odessa Law Academy' has already gained significant experience in implementing European projects, such as: TACIS, TEMPUS, ERASMUS +. Except them, University’s steady partners are the leading American grant programmes such as USAID, Fulbright Programme, Center for International Legal Education, the Leavitt Institute for International Development etc.
Within the framework of the Tempus IV Project 544117-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-HR-TEMPUS-JPCR, and in close cooperation with the University of Zagreb (Croatia) and Maribor University (Slovenia), in 2016 we have launched a master programme in the European and International Law which was taught entirely in English.
In 2019-2023, our university was a co-organiser of the CRIMHUM programme. The purpose of the CRIMHUM project was to modernise the training of specialists in the most conservative area of jurisprudence to meet the needs of employers and society, based on the priority of law, by developing and implementing a specialised master's programme in criminal justice.
In the period 2022-2024, the international educational and research project Jean Monnet Module The EU's Security Ecosystem, funded by the Jean Monnet Programme of the European Commission (grant agreement 101047745 - EUSEC), is being implemented at the National University of Law. As part of the module, the Centre for Master of Public Service and Professional Judges teaches the course Public Administration and Management (Jean Monnet Module The EU's Security Ecosystem) in English and the course Current Security Issues in the European and Euro-Atlantic Dimension in Ukrainian.
Besides, National University 'Odessa Law Academy' creates all necessary conditions for providing individual academic mobility of MA, BA, PhD students. Every year dozens of students and staff conduct research and improve their qualifications abroad.
Our students always score high results in the world famous international student intellectual competitions such as: the Philip C. Jessup Public International Law Moot Court Competition; Telders International Law Moot Court Competition, International Moot Court Competition on WTO Law; International Commercial Arbitration Court Competition under European Arbitration Chamber; the Stetson’s International Environmental Moot Court Competition, Nelson Mandela World Human Rights Moot Court Competition; The Monroe E. Price International Media Law Moot Court Competition; ELSA European Human Rights Moot Court Competition, International Moot Court on Maritime Arbitration, as well as international models of the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.
