The Faculty of Journalism takes part in international projects

The second OSCE Gender Equality Review Conference was held in Vienna on June 12-13, 2017, in which Tatyana Kuznetsova, the dean of the faculty of journalism of the National University "Odessa Law Academy", took part.

The International Conference on Gender Equality Review was organized as a platform where representatives of participating countries in OSCE, executive structures, civil society organizations and academia discussed issues on gender equality.

The conference was opened by Sophie Karmasin, Federal Minister on Family and Youth Affairs of Austria, Katarzyna Garduphadze, First Deputy Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights; also speech by video was presented by Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, and Lakshmi Puri, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations.

The focus was on issues related to the fifth aim of sustainable development of the United Nations - the achievement of gender equality and the women's empowerment.

Visit of turkish expert in the sphere of criminal law and procedure

From April 24 to April 29, 2017 Professor Dogan Soyaslan (Çankaya University, Turkey), an expert with more than 45 years of experience in the sphere of criminal law and criminal procedure, visited National University "Odessa Law Academy" in the frameworks of the program of individual academic mobility.

Professor Dogan Soyaslan and representatives of the university administrationdiscussed issues of cooperation, also he learned history, structure of National University "Odessa Law Academy" and peculiarities of organization of educational process.

Within the frameworks of the visit, a working meeting with the representatives of the department of criminal procedurewas held, during which the prospective areas of joint research of Turkish and Ukrainian scientists were discussed. In particular, an agreement on the organization of academic exchanges between two universities was reached.

Visit of the delegation of the National University “Odessa Law Academy” in Brno opens new perspectives for Odessa students

On April 19-21, 2017, the delegation of the National University "Odessa Law Academy" represented by the Dean of the Faculty of International Legal Relations Associate Professor A. Neugodnikov and Deputy Dean Associate Professor M. Katsyn participated in the annual meeting of the Association of European Law Faculties which took place in the Czech city Brno on the basis of Masaryk University. The topic of this event included such important issues as strengthening the professional orientation of legal education; the future of European law after the UK's withdrawal from the European Union, the development of draft regulatory and legal documents of the EU and others. The meeting was opened by the Minister of Justice R. Pelikan and the Vice President of the Constitutional Court of the Czech Republic, Professor J. Fenik.

Final meeting of TEMPUS IV project “Development of Master's Program in European and International Law in East Europe – InterEULawEast” at the University of Maribor

On April 21, the final meeting of representatives of the consortium of universities participating in the implementation of the TEMPUS IV project "Development of Master's Program in European and International Law in East Europe - InterEULawEast" was held at the University of Maribor (Slovenia). The main tasks of the final meeting were to assess results of each partner of the project, as well as to discuss the prospects for the development of master's program in European and international law. National University "Odessa Law Academy" was represented by Vice-President, Vice-Rector of International Relations, Judge ad hoc of the European Court of Human Rights V. Tulyakov and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Legal Relations of the University M. Katsyn.

For 4 years, experts from universities of European Union member states and representatives of Odessa School of Law were developing teaching and methodological providing for master's program. The master's program created within the framework of the project is innovative and prospective for Ukraine, as it focuses on studying legal regulation and practices of Common Market of European Union, which is especially important in the context of implementation of EU Association Agreement and Ukraine.

Professor Thomas H. Speedy Rice celebrates his birthday in the walls of the National University "Odessa Law Academy"

On April 10, a round table on "Academic integrity" was held, in which undergraduate, PhD students and professors of the National University "Odessa Law Academy" and the Washington and Lee University School of Law (Virginia, USA) took part.

The program of the round table consisted of two parts: "Analysis of the experience in the preparation of scientific articles in foreign publications" and "University practice of countering plagiarism, which constitute academic integrity, means of overcoming corruption risks".

It seemed to be an ordinary event for the University, hosting up to hundreds of foreign delegations. However, the holding of this round table coincided with one of the most important holidays for Odessa - Day of Liberation of Odessafrom the Germanfascist invaders and birthday of the head of the American delegation, Professor Thomas H. Speedy Rice.

The norms of the Constitution of Ukraine are norms of direct action and the basis of the whole legal system of Ukraine. It is important to know the provisions of the Constitution of Ukraine for every citizen, and especially for future lawyers, as they have to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens and stand guard over the laws and order. That is why constitutional law is the central academic discipline in the preparation of future lawyers and in the University program it is teached before other legal disciplines.

The Faculty of International legal relations joined the European Law Faculties Association

The Faculty of International legal relations joined the European Law Faculties Association.

European Law Faculties Association (ELFA) was established in 1995 in the University of  Leuven (Belgium). The Association is currently consists of more than  200 members (more information at the link: http://www.elfa-afde.com/elfa/member-schoolsі) and is recognized as international platform for discussion of issues which are related to the improvement of legal education.

The main tasks of Association are: to coordinate the process of legal education in Europe and curricula, to develop  cooperation between universities and to organize  scientific conferences.

The most important focus of ELFA is the reform of legal education in Europe. The projects of the  Association in particular are: European Journal of Legal Education (EJLE), an international forum on the impact of Sorbonne-Bologna Declaration on legal education and the creation of a single European field of higher legal education.

The accession of the Faculty of International Legal Relations to the European Law Faculties Association offers  new opportunities for the development of academic mobility for professors and students.
