Students of National University "Odessa Law Academy" improve their knowledge in the field of human rights

From 20 to 29 November in Clermont-Ferrand (France), a human rights project was held in the framework of Erasmus + "Stand up for human rights". It was attended by 25 young people from different countries: Ukraine, France, Italy, Spain and Romania. Two students of National University "Odessa Law Academy" the faculty of journalism Artem Dymchenko and the faculty of international legal relations Mykyta Posmetnyi represented our university and  Ukrainian team in the international exchange.

During the youth exchange, groups of young people from different countries jointly developed, prepared and carried out a program of work. Usually this is a combination of seminars, debates, role games, simulations, outdoor activities. The participants were supported by experienced couches, enabling them to develop competence, to understand socially important topics, to study new cultures and to strengthen values such as solidarity and democracy.

"It is important that the project is not just a theory. In this project you practice to rethink the problems of the modern world, make new acquaintances and discover yourself completely new. We received great experience in France, which will be obviously used by ourselves in real practice and life", – noted students-participants Mykyta and Artem.

The Selection Round of Participants of the Competition for the Internship in Switzerland

The selection round of participants of the competition for the internship in the Legal Bureau “Dr. J. Bollag & Cie” (Zug, Switzerland) was held, its founder and owner Dr. Josef Bollag visited Odessa for one day specially for this reason.

More than 20 students and graduate students of the National University "Odessa Law Academy" took part in the selection round.

As a result of a prolonged interview conducted personally by Dr. J. Bollag, the following students and graduate students were invited for internship in the spring 2018:

1. Tetiana Marchenko, graduate student of the Criminal Procedure Department.

First Cycle of Lectures of the Course "Critical Thinking and Advocacy as the Foundation of Free Society" was Completed

This semester last lecture of the optional course "Critical Thinking and Advocacy as the Foundation of Free Society", organized with the support of the Utah non-profit corporation and public chartity Leavitt Institute for International Development (USA) was held.

The course of lectures "Critical Thinking and Advocacy as the Foundation of Free Society" is aimed at supporting formation of a solid and sustainable democracy in Ukraine, training and developing of younger generation of leaders, future lawyers.

The main objectives of the course is preparation of students who are knowledgeable in Western legal ethics, think critically and are able to apply Ukrainian legislation; creating the necessary environment for discussions and cooperation in the field of civic education, which is the basis for a sustainable democracy; the formation of critical thinking skills, which are necessary for the construction and development of Ukrainian democratic institutions.

Scientific and educational relations with Mexican legal community are established

From November 8 to 11, the regular Institutional Meetings of the International Union of Notaries (UINL) took place in Cancun (Mexico).

During the meetings, 9 commissions, 6 working groups, as well as the Organizing Committee of the UINL and the General Meeting of the UINL were organized.

Representatives of more than 80 countries gathered to discuss topical issues of notary activity at the international and national levels, and to develop a common strategy and tactics of action.

Ukraine in the commission on deontology of the notary was represented by Yuri Orzikh, notary, candidate of jurisprudence, associate professor of the Civil Law Department of the National University "Odessa Law Academy".

The scientific library was replenished with a book on international commercial arbitration

Within the framework of the interuniversity cooperation, the scientific library of the National University "Odessa Law Academy" was replenished with a monographic publicationamounting to over a thousand pages "Law, Practice and Procedure of Arbitration 2nd Edition" (Lexis Nexis Edition) by Sundra Rajoo, Director of Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (Malaysia).

This book will be useful for students, graduate students, and professors, whose scientific and practical interests include international commercial arbitration.

Certificate Award Ceremony to the Participants of the Training Course "Criminal Trial Workshop" of American Lawyer Jan Seigel

On November 3, 2017, certificates awarding to the participants of the training course in English "Criminal Trial Workshop" by lawyer Jan Siegel (USA) was held. The author of the course is American lawyer, founder of the law firm Seigellaw, with more than 30 years of experience.

The classes of American expert were held from October 23 to November 3 2017. The last class was held in the form of role modeling of the trial. Each participant of the course performed one of the roles: judge, defense or prosecution, jury. Within the framework of the imitation of a trial, the participants learnt procedural subtleties of criminal cases in US courts. The training course was attended by 25 students, PhD students and young professors of the University.

The cycle of lectures given by American lawyer David Cook was completed

From October 9 to 23, 2017, the cycle of lectures given by American lawyer and mediator David Cook was organized at the National University "Odessa Law Academy".

The American expert gave an intensive two-week course of lectures on "The US Civil Law and Practice" in Odessa and an overview lectures for students of Law College. At the end of the lecture course on October 23, more than 20 students, graduate students and young university professors received certificates of successful completion of the course program.

Lawyer David Cook also visited Kiev, where he gave a lecture to students of Kiev Institute of the National University "Odessa Law Academy".

During his stay in Odessa, David Cook had a meeting with President of the National University "Odessa Law Academy" Academician Sergey Kivalov. The directions of further cooperation, in particular, organization of another intensive course of lectures in the spring semester 2018 were discussed.
