Student years are a time of diligent study and, of course, a multifaceted spectrum of interesting and vibrant student life! The National University "Odesa Law Academy" is known not only for the excellent training of modern highly qualified specialists but also for the effective student self-government, which plays an important role in the formation of an active civic position of students, as well as in solving the main issues of student life.
The Student Council is, first of all, a student self-government body. It is also an organisation that exists solely on the enthusiasm of its members, who set their own goals, set tasks, find ways to solve them and achieve the desired results.
The activities of student self-government are aimed at increasing social activity in the student environment, initiative and responsibility for the assigned tasks, harmonious development of students' personalities, their ability to self-organise and self-improve, and the acquisition of qualities and skills of a leader, organiser, and manager.
The development of student self-government at the National University "Odesa Law Academy" is an important condition for improving the educational process, ensuring quality education and leisure, and fostering the spirituality and culture of student youth.
The main goal of student self-government is to promote the conscientious performance of students' duties while protecting their legal rights and interests, as well as providing them with opportunities for creative and intellectual development.
The student self-government of the National University "Odesa Law Academy" was established and operates on the basis of the Law of Ukraine "On Higher Education" and the Regulations on Student Self-Government at the University.
The main tasks of the student self-government bodies are:
- ensuring and protecting the rights and interests of students;
- ensuring that students fulfil their duties;
- ensuring effective communication between students and the administration and teachers;
- promoting educational, scientific and creative activities of students;
- facilitating the creation of appropriate conditions for students living and recreation;
- promoting the activities of various student groups, societies, associations, and hobby clubs;
- providing information, legal, psychological, and financial assistance to students (in cooperation with relevant services);
- informing students about the events of the institute, university or city that are relevant to them;
- creating comfortable conditions for studying in the institute's buildings;
- maintaining the image of the institute and disseminating correct information about the institute among applicants;
- supporting student initiatives and facilitating their implementation;
- establishing and maintaining relations with student self-government bodies of other faculties, institutes and higher education institutions, potential employers and sponsors, as well as with other youth organisations in order to provide support to students;
- development of concepts and implementation of projects aimed at organising students' leisure time or developing their creative, sporting, and scientific potential;
- organisation of leisure evenings, competitions, initiation into students, graduation parties, faculty days, etc.
The areas of activity of the student council can be divided according to the following principles:
- external direction (communication, training, coaching);
- project direction (organisation, management);
- information direction (PR, information structuring, texts);
- creative direction (photography, graphics, layout, video);
- secretariat (communication with the administration, protection of students' rights);
- property management (improvement of academic buildings).
The supreme representative body of the University's student self-government is the Student Conference, which makes decisions by a relative majority, by secret or open vote.
The Student Council of the National University "Odesa Law Academy" is the representative body of student self-government between the conferences of students. The Student Council is an elected body whose members are elected by the student body in direct secret ballot.
The Student Council of the University is a permanent representative body that carries out practical activities to implement the tasks of student self-government of our educational institution.
The Student Council operates in accordance with the Development Strategy, which is approved annually and posted together with the decisions of the Council on the official website of the University. The student self-government bodies act as a kind of intermediary between the management of the educational institution and the student body, ensuring their effective communication and fruitful cooperation, and mutual understanding between students and the teaching staff and employees of the educational institution.
The Student Council not only protects the rights and legitimate interests of students but also organises various cultural and educational events. Among them: international and local excursions to state authorities and courts, the Leader School of Student Self-Government, the Golden Key career guidance competition for schoolchildren and applicants, sports competitions among faculties (institutes) and dormitories of the ULA, the ULA Student of the Year competition, the Best Dormitory Room competition, the Traditions of Ukrainian Cuisine culinary competition, and others. In addition, the Student Council organises and conducts celebrations (dedicated to the Day of Knowledge, Lawyer's Day, Student's Day, Valentine's Day, and International Women's Day), charity events, festivals, various competitions and clubs for useful leisure of students, providing an opportunity to maximise and realise their creative abilities.
Members of the Student Council are active participants in conferences, seminars, and open lectures held in Odesa and other regions of Ukraine. The student self-government engages students in work activities in their free time (together with the deans' offices), coordinates the activities of the headmen and curators; monitors students' academic and work discipline, immediately responds to violations; participates in the distribution of the scholarship fund, ensures the storage and maintenance of premises, equipment and other university property in the required condition; organises student duty and facilitates the establishment of a pass regime in dormitories, creates conditions for independent training (study) of students and their recreation and leisure, together with the heads of dormitories; promotes a healthy lifestyle, prevents students from committing offences, using alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc.
The significance and importance of the Student Council is quite high because it shows the moods, desires, ideas and problems of students. Here, everyone can choose something for themselves, and if not, there is always the opportunity to create their own direction and lead it.
Our motto is: "Your ideas are our implementation". After all, the student council is an effective mechanism for implementing your ideas and plans, it is a system that can support any undertaking and bring it to completion through joint efforts. So, if you have a desire to work, keep abreast of all events and become a generator of ideas, the Student Council is waiting for you!
Initiative and self-belief, leadership and the ability to work in a team are the fundamental qualities of a successful and bright student, especially when it comes to the National University "Odesa Law Academy". That is why the Student Council is always open and waiting for your ideas, suggestions and opinions.
