The department was established in June 2016 under the decree of the Rector of the National University «Odesa Law Academy» in order to teach general subjects of social and humanitarian circle.
The department prepares bachelor’s and master’s students of full-time and part-time forms of study at the Ivano-Frankivsk Institute.
The main goal of the department’s work is the formation of the knowledge system of students in the field of general and theoretical jurisprudence, historical and law and philosophical disciplines, politology, language; training of highly qualified specialists, as well as participation in scientific and research, organizational, methodical, educational work of the Ivano-Frankivsk Institute and University.
The contents of the disciplines is focused on the formation of the students’ system of theoretical knowledge and the acquisition of practical skills in the field of general law and humanitarian disciplines, improving foreign languages.
The Department of General Law and Humanitarian Subjects provides teaching the following subjects: «History of the State and Law of Ukraine», «History of the State and Law of Foreign Countries», «History of the Police», «General Theory of Law and the State», «Jurisprudence Methodology», «Modern Law Systems», «Administrative Jurisdiction of the Police», «Practical Logic», «The Ukrainian Language (for professional purpose)», «The Latin Language», «Foreign language (for professional purpose)», «Foreign Language of a Lawyer», «Philosophy of Law», «Philosophy», «Social and Political Processes», «Academic Integrity and Professional Ethics», «Professional Ethics and Disciplinary Responsibility», «Psychology», «Life Safety», «Physical Education».
Currently, the department employs 8 teachers – 5 full-time employees (1 Doctor of Law, 1 Candidate of Historical Sciences, 1 Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, 1 Candidate of Political Sciences, 1 Candidate of Philological Sciences); 1 in the position of professor of the department, 3 in the position of associate professor of the department, 1 in the position of senior teacher of the department and 3 part-time employees – candidate of philological sciences and 2 senior teachers.
The organization of the scientific and research work of the department in 2016-2020 was carried out within the framework of the general departmental topic of the scientific researches «Theoretical, law and humanitarian foundations of the study of state and law phenomena and specific problems of the civil society», approved at the meeting of the department on August 30, 2016, protocol № 1.
In 2021-2025, the staff of the department conducts scientific researches on the topic «Development of theoretical, law and humanitarian sciences – historiosophical contents» (protocol № 5 from December 23, 2020).
Since 2016, the department’s teachers have published an author’s monograph, co-authored monographs and articles in foreign collective monographs, as well as teaching aids.
All the disciplines, assigned to the department, are provided with teaching and methodical materials. In the context of this work, the team of the department has developed educational and teaching and methodical complexes for full-time and part-time students.
Since 2016, the staff of the department has developed more than 30 educational and methodological manuals.
The teachers also implemented their own methodical developments during this period. In particular, Candidate of Political Sciences, Associate Professor I. Koval – 1 methodical development «Teaching of the educational discipline «Social and political processes» in higher educational institutions», Candidate of Philological Sciences, Senior Teacher L. Kysliak – 2 methodological developments: «Teaching of the subject the History of the Ukrainian culture in higher educational institutions» and «Innovative technologies and interactive teaching methods in classes of «The Ukrainian language (for professional purpose)» and «History of the Ukrainian culture».
The teachers of the department participate in the work of international and all-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences, other scientific events.
During 2016-2023, the teachers of the department defended the dissertation for the degree of the Doctor of Law L. Ya. Korytko (2017), the dissertation for the degree of the Candidate of Law A. V. Dudych (2017), the dissertation for the Candidate of Philological Sciences L. N. Kysliak (2021).
In order to involve students in scientific activities, the scientific students' circle «Language as a means of communication» operates at the department under the leadership of the teachers O. Blaha and L. Kysliak. The activity of the circle is aimed at developing the creative abilities of the students with the aim of acquiring communication skills, as well as the experience of acquiring knowledge and skills through conducting scientific researches.
