Department of Criminalistics
An outstanding scientist, doctor of Law, professor Viktor Pavlovich Kolmakov, who worked in Odesa in 1968-1973 is considered to be the initiator of scientific and pedagogical work in the field of criminalistics at the Faculty of Law of Odesa State University and creator of Odesa criminalistics school.

Criminalistics department was separated in the independent one after the foundation of Odesa National Academy of Law in January 1998. The basic task is to prepare the qualified experts for work in prosecutor's offices, bodies of Ministry of Internal Affaires and Security Service of Ukraine.
The department has two laboratories for judicial photography and criminalistic, and also a specialized room. They are equipped with training stands and special devices. These scientific and technical devices help to hold classes on criminalistics technique (a judicial photography and video recording, trace science, ballistics, criminalistics analysis of the documents, writing and handwriting, dactyloscopy), form tactics of the examination of a place of accident and other investigation actions, technique of investigation of separate categories of crimes.
The lecturers of the department are the head of the department, Candidate of Law, assistant professor Valeriy Vladimirovich Tischenko, Candidate of Law, assistant professor N.N.Shulga, Candidate of Law , assistant professor A.S. Saihchin, Candidate of Law , assistant professor Vladimir Alexandrovich Komaha, Candidate of Law, assistant Larisa Igorevna Arkusha lecture on criminalistics; the course of forensic medicine is lectured by the Candidate of Medicine, assistant professor L.D.Chekanov; the assistant professor A.N. Mohovikov reads the course of forensic psychiatry.
For the in-depth study of the basic courses such special courses as " Judicial photography " (assistant professor V. O.Komaha), " Legal and criminalistics cybernetics " (assistant professor M M.Shulga)." Problems of an investigation techniques of separate categories of crimes " (assistant professor V. V. Tischenko), " Investigation of crimes in the sphere of financial and economic activities " (assistant professor M. M. Shulga)," Criminalistics expert examination" (assistant professor V.O. Komaha)," The fundamental principles of the operational - investigative activities " (assistant professor O.S. Sainchin) are delivered.
The assistants L.I. Arkusha, V. M. Dardas, S. P. Chumak conduct seminars and practical classes on these courses.
There is an archive of training criminal and expert cases used at practical and laboratory classes on criminalistics and intended for the individual work of students.
Some practical classes and lectures on forensic medicine are lectured both in the department and in the museum of forensic medicine of Odesa Medical University, on forensic psychiatry - in regional and city mental asylums.
Lessons on organizational and tactical as well as methodical questions of investigation of crimes, using of computer information retrieval system are carried out according to the contract with Odesa regional prosecutor's office. The experienced officials of prosecutor’s office are supervisors of students’ practice.
