Head of the Department, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor Victor M. DRYOMIN
The history of department and its disciplines, as well as the history of Academy of law, takes root in the history of the faculty of law of Mechnikov Odesa State University. Criminology as a science in our state has passed different stages among which there were both the periods of social recognition, and persecution, and decade of expulsion from educational courses. The sixtieth years when the first fundamental works and study-guides on criminology have appeared became significant.
The first specialists in criminology were senior teacher M.O.EIchaninov who has worked out the educational course of criminology, and the candidate of Law C.M. Jasinsky who was then the public prosecutor of Odesa region. From 1967 till 1975 criminology was taught by M.O.EIchaninov, from 1975 till 1980 by Professor E.V.Dodin, who effected the first criminological research works at the department. Professor Victor Pavlovich Kolmakov made a great contribution to the development of criminology. He was the dean of faculty and the chief of criminalistics, criminal law and criminal procedure department from 1967 till 1973. V.P.Kolmakov was the initiator of introduction of a new training course "Prevention of juvenile crimes ". This course comprised explicit comparative criminological characteristics of juvenile crimes, including foreign countries, its causesand means of struggle against it. The new impulse to the development of criminology at the law faculty of Odessa State University was given by the appointment of the well- known scientist in the USSR Professor L V Bagriy-Shahmatov as the chairman of criminal law, process and criminalistics department in 1980. |
