Department the History of State and Law
The History of State and Law Department was founded in 1997. Candidate of History, Associate Professor Volodymyr P. Glynyany, has headed the department. During the Soviet period, the history of state and law was taught at the Theory and History of State and Law Department. For a long time it was headed by Doctor of Law, Professor O. V. Surilov. The History of State and Law Department is one of the leading departments and provides a number of fundamental disciplines. The main sphere of the department’s research activity is the development of the issues concerning the history and the evolution of law in ancient states, research into the Middle Ages and the Soviet period. The core disciplines of the History of State and Law Department include: “History of state and law of foreign countries”, “History of state and law of Ukraine”, special course “The evolution of court and legal procedure in Ukraine”.
The staff of the department takes part in the
international and national scientific and practical conferences, seminars
and “round table” discussions. Only in 2006-2007 the teachers of the
department took part in 10 international and 5 national scientific
conferences. The department scholars actively participated in realization of the scientific project “The Statutes of Great Lithuanian Principality”. It was for the first time in the research of the Russian-Lithuanian legislation that the Statutes were translated into Ukrainian (The Statutes of Great Lithuanian Principality of 1526. Edited by S. Kivalov, P. Muzychenko, A. Pankov. - Odessa, 2002, T.1; 2003, T.2; 2004, T.3).
Further, the results of the department’s scientific work were reflected in a number of monographs: V. P. Glynyany.
