Department of Juridical Psychology and Pedagogics
Head of the Department, Candidate of Philology, Professor Anatoliy I. PANKOV
The Department of Juridical Psychology and Pedagogics was created in January 1998 in order to teach the subjects that had been professed by the teaching staff at the University departments of Psychology, Pedagogics and Ethnology of Ukraine. It was also directed to research scientific problems dealing with the new requirements towards psychological and pedagogical training of jurists aimed to add efficiency to their proficiency. Today the department is the source of basic juridical knowledge, linguistics, sociology along with theoretical and methodological postulates of psychology, pedagogics and the art of PR. This gives more reasonable grounds to a better training of students for practical and scientific activities.
The students of the Faculty of Juridical Journalism obtain knowledge and skills in jurisprudence and analytical practical skills in the sphere of PR, situational analysis, regulations of relations with the public and evaluation of their efficiency. The basic fields of the department’s research are the issues of formation of consciousness, legal awareness and political sense, people’s safety, psychology of public administration, communication and business ethics and training methodology of subjects. The department is headed by Anatoly I.Pankov, Candidate of Philology, Professor, Academician of Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Honoured Scientist of Ukraine. He has philological and basic juridical education and specializes in the problems of legal awareness and political consciousness, mentality and culture in the jurisprudence of Ukraine and pedagogy of higher education in Ukraine. He carries out researches of philosophical views of T.Shevchenko, I.Franko, Lesia Ukrainka, D. Dontsova, V.Vynnychenko and I.Ilyin. A.Pankov is the author of more than 100 publications. He participated in the development of the national program of humanitarian education, conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science which was applied at Universities of Ukraine. A.Pankov reads the courses in Fundamentals of Psychology and Pedagogics, Higher Education and the Bologna Process, Psychology of Public Administration and Theory of Journalism. He is the co-author of 3-volume Statutes of Grand Principality of Lithuania and the author of monograph Religion and Gods of Ancient Rus-Ukraine. Associate Professor Sergiy M.Streminovsky reads the course of Juridical Psychology and Fundamentals of Psychology and Pedagogics. Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor Myroslava V.Mamych gives lectures on Ukrainian for law specialists and the Theory and Techniques of Journalism. Senior teacher Valentyn I. Samknulov delivers the course Life Safety and Civil Protection of Population. The staff of the department work on the scientific theme ‘Creation of learner-centered teaching and educational system and professional orientation of juridical education at Odessa National Academy of Law in compliance with psychological, social and intellectual abilities of students’. The results of the scientific researches are published in the articles edited in collections of scientific papers, journals and conference proceedings. Instructional and methodological research of the teachers is concentrated on the development of programmes for new courses and publication of methodological literature. Since 1998 the following works have been published: “Juridical Psychology: Guidelines on Organization of Student Self Study”; a textbook on the Ukrainian language; work programmes and seminar plans of the following courses: “Civil Protection of Population”, “Human Life Safety”, “Business Ukrainian”, “Elocution in Law”, “Language and Style, Logic and Content of Procedural Documents”, “Ukrainian and Foreign Culture”, study guide “Methodology of Personality’s Psychodiagnostics”, methodological recommendations to the course “Social and Psychological Problems of Law”; questionnaires for personality profile studies have been worked out.
