Department the Theory of State and Law

The head of the department is Doctor of Law, Professor, pro-rector for scientific work, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Yuriy M. Oborotov who makes a valuable personal contribution to the development of the basic theme of the theoretical research – “Traditions and innovations of legal and state development”. The Theory of State and Law Department is one of the leading departments which provides reading of a number of fundamental disciplines, including: The theory of state and law, The problems of the theory of state and law, The history of political and legal doctrines, Methodology of legal science, Rhetoric. The above-mentioned academic subjects promote the law students’ understanding of the scientific logic of state and law evolution, provide for the development of legal culture and mentality as well as improvement of professional skills. These disciplines offer an effective way of the world outlook formation and methodological orientation of the specialists of legal profile. Since 2001, the staff of the department has conducted scientific researches into the theme “Traditions and innovations in law development (theoretic aspect)”. Scientific researches resulted in publishing the monograph “Traditions and innovations in law development (general theoretical aspect)” by Y.M. Oborotov in 2001; “Traditions and renovations in the sphere of law: theoretical issues (from cognition to comprehension of law)” by Y.M. Oborotov in 2002; “Speech communication and the art of speech” by A.N. Ovchynnikova, in 2003; “Traditions of law development: pluralism of legal doctrines” by V.V. Dudchenko and “Phenomenology of law and order” by A.F. Kryzhanivsky in 2006 . Within the recent 10 years the academic staff of the department defended two theses for the scientific degree of Doctor of Law, namely Y.M. Oborotov (2003), V.V. Dudchenko (2007), and also five theses for the scientific degree of Candidate of Law: S.P. Kravchenko (1999), G.M. Chuvakova (2004), Z.M. Yudin (2004), O.S. Melnychuk (2005), O.O. Dzhurayeva (2006). In 2007 the thesis for the degree of Candidate of Law by I.M. Balzhyk was approved for the defence. The department conducts serious methodological work to support the reading of the departments’ disciplines. The staff of the department published: “History of state and law doctrines: Manual” (2005, A.I. Kormych); “Theory of state and law (Pragmatic course): examination reference book” (2005, Y.M.Oborotov); “Rhetoric: reader” (2006, A.N. Ovchynnikova); “Theory of state and law: elementary course” (2007, N.M. Krestovska). The staff of the department takes part in international and national conferences, seminars and “round table” meetings. In 2001 only, the teachers took part in 6 international, 2 national conferences and 4 “round table” discussions. One should mention the international conference in juvenile policy and juvenile justice held by the Theory of State and Law Department in September 2007, and a “round table” meeting in philosophy of law in October, 2007. Students research work is stimulated by participation in the work of the dispute club “Law and civilization” (supervised by Assosiate Professor Z.M. Yudin) and “Rhetoric” scientific society (under the supervision of Professor A.N. Ovchynnikova) which function at the department. The department’s staff comprises: 4 Doctors of Sciences, Professors (Yuriy M. Oborotov, Valentyna V. Dudchenko, Oleksandr L. Kopylenko, Albina P. Ovchynnicova); 1 Candidate of Science, Professor(Volodymyr V. Zavalnyuk); 9 Candidates of Sciences, Assosiate Professors (Olena O. Dzhurayeva, Lyudmyla D. Dolgopolova, Anatoliy I. Kormych, Sergiy P. Kravchenko, Natalya M. Krestovska, Anatoliy F. Kryzhanivsky, Olga S. Melnychuk, Ganna M. Chuvakova, Zoreslav M. Yudin); 1 senior lecturer (Sergiy M. Skurihin); 7 assistants (Irena A. Balzhyk, Ivan V. Dolmatov, Olga M. Ivanchenko, Stepan V Kovbasyuk, Oksana H. Osadcha, Yuliya V. Tyshchenko, Andriy O. Falkovsky); 2 laboratory assistants (Galyna M. Golubyeva, Lyudmyla M. Arnautova).
