Department of military training

Military training of the full-time students in Odesa State Law Academy began by the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1742 dated November 4, 1998 concerning “Military Training of the Students in Odesa National Academy of Law”.

In accordance with the joint order of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the Minister of Education of Ukraine No. 483/471 dated December 30, 1998 concerning “Establishment of the department of military training in Odesa National Academy of Law” in September 1999 the sub-faculty was founded and in October of the same year the training of the students began according to the program for the reserve officers with the term of training for 2.5 years in the content provided in accordance with the state order by three military registration specialties.

The department of military training is a military training sub-unit of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and a structural training scientific sub-unit of the Academy.

The main body of the educational and subsidiary engineering staff of the department is constituted today from the professionally trained lecturers, skilled teachers transferred from Odesa Institute of Land Forces and South Operative Command, Candidates of Law assistant professors, colonels O.M. Bondar and O.O.Rozantsev: lieutenant colonels O.M. Ivanov, V.L. Fomin, I.B. Popkov, S.M. Skurikhin, V.V. Kistynchuk, I.V. Shapovalov, majors V.I. Khutorny, V.O. Chasovsky, O.V. Nikolayenko, S.V. Kocherygin, captain Yu.M. Atamanyuk and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine constituting subsidiary educational, subsidiary engineering and administrative staffs of the department.

The educational process is performed according to the requirements of the Temporary provision concerning organization of the training for officers in the civil higher educational institutions of Ukraine and approved by the curriculums determining idea and theoretical, scientific and practical contents of the military training for the students, optimal contents of the theoretical knowledge and practical skill gaining by them in the specialty.

The department administration, teachers and subsidiary engineering staff make great efforts to improve the quality and effectiveness of the educational, methodic and military scientific work. Educational method books in tactical training, military statutes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been seriously worked out at the department, other textbooks are planned to be published in order to perfect the methodical mastery and professional experience of the teachers, application of the progressive skill of the forces and military educational institutions to the educational process. The training base, material and technical support of the studies and training are improved.

The tasks of ideological and political, military, moral, legal, esthetic and physical training of the students are carried out in the organic unity with the process of training. Great attention is paid to the formation of high moral and psychological features in the future officers, their adherence to the requirements of the military oath, personal responsibility for the country defense. In military patriotic work great attention is given to education of the students in the battle traditions of Ukrainian people and its Armed Forces. For this purpose excursions to the battle places and to the memorial complexes in the Fame Belt around the hero city of Odesa, to the Historical Museum of Odesa Military District (of South Operative Command), meeting with the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and soldiers who fought in Afghanistan are organized.

On the whole the military training for the students at the department is a consistent purposeful process of training and education of the future reserve officers’ devotion to the people.
