Department of Constitutional Law

Head of the Department, Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician, Marco P. ORZIKH

The department is headed by Marko P.Orzikh, Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences and the Academician of Ukrainian Academy of Political Sciences, Ukrainian Municipal Academy, Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Honorary Professor of Odessa National Academy of Law. M.P.Orzikh received 32 state awards (orders and medals of the USSR and Ukraine), decoration badge “Guard”, 8 certificates of merits of the USSR Commander-in-Chief, honors of state and civil organizations, Medal of Honor (USA) and the medal of Odessa city council.

M.P.Orzikh was declared the Personality of the Year in 2004 by the American Biographical Institute.

M.P.Orzikh is the author of more than 500 published works, ten of which are monographs, and two scientific discoveries. He is also chief editor of ‘Juridical Bulletin’, member of editorial boards and scientific councils of several journals and other editions.

The Department has prepared a number of training aids widely used in the studies: “Public Service in Ukraine” (edited by Doctor of Law, Professor V.B.Averianov); “Coordination between Local Executive Institutions and Local Governments in Ukraine”; “Constitutional Reform in Ukraine”; “Constitutional Law of Ukraine”; “Municipal Law of Ukraine” (edited by V.F.Pohorilko and O.F.Frytsky) and others.

The Department of Constitutional Law has a branch at Odessa city council, which allows maintaining close contacts with practical specialists.

Beside major subjects (Constitutional Law, Municipal Law, Martial Law) the department provides such special courses as Constitutional Reform in Ukraine; Coordination of Local Executive Institutions, Municipal Law of Ukraine; Constitutional Regulation of Direct Democracy in Ukraine, etc.

At the Department of Constitutional Law, there is a students’ public law scientific club (under supervision of M.V.Afanasyev).
