The field of civil relations is the most widespread in any constitutional state.

Modern civil society needs specialists in the sphere of justice, especially for work in judicial bodies, notary public offices, legal profession and organs of tax administrations. At Odessa National Law Academy the students of the Faculty of Civil and Economic justice study special subjects to work in these branches.

The Faculty and the Academy in total are obliged in their impetuous development to the President of Odessa National Law Academy Sergey Vasilevich Kivalov. With the help of his talent of supervisor, amazing potential, capacity for work and desire to establish a true European juridical institution of higher education in Yuzhnaya Pal’mira (Odessa), nowadays Odessa National Law Academy is the leader of juridical education and science of Ukraine. Nowadays the Academy is the best institution of higher education in Ukraine, as General public prosecutor of Ukraine Alexander Medved’ko noted at the meeting of general public prosecutors of Ukraine, Romania and Moldova which was held in Odessa National Law Academy on March 27 this year.    

The Faculty of Civil and Economic jurisprudence is deeply rooted in the history of foundation and development of Odessa National Law Academy. The Department of Civil Law, Civil Judicial System and Legal Proceedings of Novorossiyskiy (Odessa) university (est. 1865), can be considered the germ of the Faculty.

The Faculty of Civil Law and Enterprise was established on the basis of the Faculty of Justice and Administration of Justice and Legal Work in the National Economy of Juridical Institute of Odessa State University in December 1997. The first dean of the Faculty was Candidate of Law, Associate Professor I.A.Dryshliuk. He headed the Faculty until September 2000. Later on, the Faculty of Civil Law and Enterprise was in charge of Candidate of Law, Professor M.R.Arakelyan, who took up the general tendency of the Academy’s development and achieved great results and created an auspicious atmosphere for students’ full-fledged teaching. In 2005 the Faculty was given the name of the Faculty of Civil and Economic Justice. Since then it has been headed by Candidate of Law, Associate Professor V.N.Podgorodinsky.

The Faculty of Civil Law and Economic Justice is located in a separate building equipped with computer classes, specialized auditoriums for lectures and practical classes that meet international standards of education.

Here, students deeply study civil law, civil process, legal security of economic activity, legal security of external economic activity and relations concerning property estate.

Agreements on cooperation in the field of juridical education between Odessa National Law Academy and particular state authorities have been reached. In particular, the Academy cooperates with Court of Appeal of Kiev, an agreement with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has been prolonged this year and an agreement with the State tax administration has been concluded. Due to the indicated agreements, the Academy annually realizes total-lot state distribution of seniors of the Faculty who can always get a job, because there is confidence of their knowledge and talents.

Scientific research work of the Faculty’s departments (Departments of Civil Law, Civil Process, Agrarian, Land and Ecological Law, Entrepreneurial and Commercial Law) helps to improve the quality and level of educational process and scientific theoretical knowledge of students. Scientific works of Professor   Chervony Yu. S., Professor Kharitonov E. O., Professor Karakash I. I., Professor Kharitonova E. I. and other scientists are very popular on the territory of Ukraine and abroad.

It would be enough to mention the name of Professor, Candidate of Law, Member-correspondent of Academy of Law Sciences of Ukraine Chervony Yuriy Semenovich. He was the first dean of the juridical faculty of Odessa State University, being at present the head of the Department of Civil Process of Odessa National Law Academy. In October 2000, under President’s decree, Professor Chervony was given the rank of ‘Honoured Jurist of Ukraine’ for his great contribution into the realization of the state juridical policy and his efforts towards consolidation of law and order and professionalism. Yuriy Semenovich educated a Plead of famous scientists, jurists, who nowadays are taking high state positions. In particular, Chairman of Constitutional Court of Ukraine Ivan Dombrovsky, in February this year at the meeting with the staff of the Academy remembered his passing exams to Yuriy Semenovich.
