Faculty of Social law

Dean of the Social Law Faculty, Doctor of Law, Professor Galia I. CHANYSHEVA

In the years of the young Ukrainian state formation, its social policy was primarily focused on establishment of institutions, which provide social protection of citizens and create conditions for full realization of a working person’s abilities. Fair social and labour relations maintenance also was one of the tasks in this area.

The necessity to train specialists who have higher juridical education for working in social sphere is objectively caused by the needs of the modern society.

For the purpose of training such specialists the Faculty of Social Security Law was established by the decision of the Academic Council of Odessa National Academy of Law in April 2002. ONLA and the Pension Fund of Ukraine concluded a contract for professional staff training with full-time and extra-mural departments.

Doctor of Law, Professor Galiya I. Chanysheva, head of the Department of Labour Law and Social Security Law, was elected faculty Dean. Yegor V. Krasnov, lecturer of the Department of Labour Law and Social Security Law, was elected deputy Dean. Maryna V. Fefelova and Valentyna D. Martynyuk are teaching methods specialists of the faculty Dean’s Office.

The faculty trains specialists majoring in Jurisprudence. On completion of the course, they get diplomas of Specialist and Master. Among the students, there are a lot of those who study here on recommendation of different institutions, including regional departments of the Pension Fund of Ukraine from all regions of Ukraine and Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the Main Labour and Social Policy Board of Odessa Regional State Administration, etc.

Despite the fact that the Faculty of Social Law is the youngest in the Academy, it is deservedly considered one of the best units of the kind. Good academic results at the faculty speak for themselves. The first graduates (2007) demonstrated great achievements: 29 students received degrees with honours, which make almost 35 per cent of the total number of graduates.

The faculty is located in a nine-storey educational building in the historic centre of Odessa at 28 Richelieu Street. Students are trained in well-equipped lecture-rooms, which meet the latest European standards. The majority of nonresident students live in modern comfortable halls of residence with excellent living conditions.

Undergraduates study such core disciplines as Labour Law of Ukraine and Social Security Law. They also master the following special courses: Legal Service in Authorities of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, Medical Law, etc.

The teaching staff develop special courses on social orientation for students of the faculty. Simultaneously students receive all-round knowledge in basic legal disciplines that enables them to realize their full potential in any sphere of jurisprudence.
