Nowadays Odesa National Academy of Law is a center of law education, culture, and science of Ukraine, a leading higher education institution of jurisprudence. According to the decision of the state accreditation board of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, the academy performs the training of specialists according to the highest – the forth level of accreditation. In October 1999 Odesa National Academy of Law was recognized the winner in the nomination – the best law education institution in Ukraine.

Teaching of the students is performed according to the state standards of education, the guide documents by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Altogether there are over 6000 students in the Academy.

In 1998 the first 436 students graduated from the Academy, which has become an independent educational institution. 145 graduates of 161 were assigned. The graduates of the judiciary faculty were in full demand as 100 per cent of them were employed.

When the principal directions of reform in law education were proclaimed following the order of the President of Ukraine, these approaches to the organization and contents of the education were designated:

1. introduction to the law education the priority of the values, needs, interests and rights common to all mankind;
2. gradual transition from the study of the law fields to the study of the scientific theories reflecting progress of the world civilization in the field of law;
3. performance of fundamental specialization of the law education considering current practical problems representing expansion and extending of relations of law with the different fields of humanitarian, natural and technical sciences.

Over 150 highly skilled lecturers, doctors of sciences, professors and Ph.Ds., assistant professors work in the Academy. Most of them have more than 15-year experience of work in the higher school. The staff of the Academy is permanently enlarged with the talented youth defending their Ph.D. theses in the specialized academic councils of ONLA and in other higher education institutions. Among the lecturers there are specialists famous in Ukraine and abroad, leaders of the scientific schools, doctors of sciences, professors namely: S.V. Kivalov, Yu.S. Chervony, M.P. Orzikh, L.V. Bagriy-Shakhmatov, M.O. Baymuratov, Ye.V. Dodin, L.I. Kormych, D.S. Shelest, V.O. Tulyakov, O.O. Pogribny, I.M. Sirota, Ye.O. Kharytonov, Yu.P. Alenin, I.O. Saniakhmetova, G.I. Chanysheva, V.Ya.Mizetska, O.A. Ivakin, assistant professors D.A. Bekerska, M.Yu. Cherkes, V.A. Glynyany and others.

Besides the staff lecturers the practicing officials work in the Academy; well-known lawyers, deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, chief executives of the public bodies, the judiciary, the law enforcement agencies and many others are among them.

The lecturers of the Academy were conferred with the high national awards. Professor S.V. Kivalov was conferred with the Orders of Merit of I, II and III degrees, he was conferred with the honorary title of “The Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine”. Professor M.P. Orzikh was conferred with the Order of Merit of III degree, professor L.I. Kormych was conferred with the order of Princess Olga of III degree. Professors Ye.V. Dodin, O.V. Surilov were conferred the honorary title of the “Honoured Man of Science and Engineering of Ukraine”. Formerly this title had been conferred on academician L.V. Bagriy-Shakhmatov. Professors G.M. Yasynsky, I.M. Sirota, O.M. Chervony, assistant professor M.Yu. Cherkes, professor Yu.E. Polyansky were conferred the honorary title of the “Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine”, assistant professor K.M. Vitman was conferred the title of the “Honoured Man of Education of Ukraine”.

The education is organized according to the degree system. The Academy trains the students of any qualification levels as follows: Junior Specialist, Bachelor, Specialist, Master. It requires meticulous organization of the educational process, well-coordinated work of the whole staff of the Academy.

The principal courses of the activity of the Academy were mentioned in the Statute of the Academy. Doctor of Law Sciences, professor S.V. Kivalov presides the Academy being its president.

The staff of the Academy administration includes the president of the Academy professor S.V. Kivalov, acting rector professor A.I. Pankov, the first pro-rector professor Yu.Ye. Polyansky, pro-rector of studies professor M.O. Baymuratov, pro-rector of international relations professor M.P. Orzikh, pro-rector of administrative work M.F. Kryklyvy.
