The Department of Criminalistics is part of the faculty of the Prosecutor's Office and the investigation (criminal justice) and trains specialists in full-time and part-time forms at all faculties and institutes of the National University "Odessa Law Academy".

The department trains scientific and pedagogical personnel in full-time and part-time postgraduate studies in the specialty 12.00.09 - criminal process and  criminalistics; forensic examination; operational search activity.

The department provides teaching of the following disciplines: Forensic science; Fundamentals of operational and investigative activities; Detection and investigation of corrupt and organized criminal activities; Automated workplace of the investigator and detective; Theoretical and practical problems of crime investigation methods and tactics; Detection and investigation of cybercrime; Detection and investigation of crimes in the field of IT technologies; Judicial expertise in the investigation of crimes in the field of economics; Forensic medicine and psychiatry; Basics of investigative activity; Polygraph and psycho-physiological diagnosis of personality; Polygraph as a means of personality research in criminal proceedings; Psychology of investigative and operational activities; Organization and tactics of criminal police activities in countering crimes; Detection and investigation of corruption crimes (in the highest branches of government); Tactics of counteraction of modern criminal activity; Innovative areas of criminalistics research: theory and practice; Methods of investigation of crimes in the sphere of economic activity; Problems of crime investigation strategy; Countering cyber crime: criminalistics aspect; Fire training; Organization and tactics of the patrol police in countering crimes.

The department has an archive of educational criminal and expert cases that are used in practical classes in criminalistics and special courses, as well as for independent work of students. Practical classes and separate lectures on forensic medicine are held in special (specialized) auditorium. Visits to the Museum of Forensic Medicine of the Odessa Medical University and the Regional Psychiatric Hospital, the Odessa Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Examination are organized.
