The Department of Journalism is a graduating department of the Faculty of Journalism at the National University «Odesa Law Academy». It was established in 2013 on the initiative of the President of the National University «Odesa Law Academy», Serhiy Kivalov.

The department’s team provides training for highly qualified specialists in the specializations «Journalism» and «Advertising and Public Relations (PR)».

The Department of Journalism conducts classes in a television studio, where students practice journalistic skills in real-world conditions, creating and recording their own shows and projects. The department also actively cooperates with leading television and radio companies in Ukraine, where the most successful students are sent for internships.

Among the department’s teaching staff are doctors and candidates of sciences, practicing journalists, as well as prominent Ukrainian and international scholars, experts, researchers, and media professionals.

The main principles of the department’s educational and practical work are:
– close integration of theory and practice, with active involvement of professional journalists in the educational process;

– studying current trends of the modern media space (new media, visual communications, advertising, and PR tools of marketing communications, etc.);

– conducting classes based on stakeholder platforms;

– a unique model of masterclasses regularly held by successful Ukrainian and foreign journalists and university professors;

– innovative and active teaching methods.

The current research topic of the department:
‘Social communications in the context of the formation of civil society in Ukraine and the world in the digital era: methodological and applied aspects.
