The Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies has been operating at the National University ‘Odesa Law Academy’ since the university’s establishment. It serves as the main form of systematic training for academic and research personnel of the highest qualification.

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is both an educational and the first academic degree, obtained at the third level of higher education based on a specialist’s or master’s degree.

The PhD degree can be earned upon completion of postgraduate studies and the public defense of a dissertation.

The educational and research program, as well as the postgraduate curriculum, consist of two components: educational and research.

  • Mastering general scientific (philosophical) competencies;
  • Developing universal research skills and teaching proficiency;
  • Achieving language competence at the C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The research component involves conducting independent scientific research under the supervision of one or two academic advisors and presenting the results in the form of a dissertation.
