The Department of Criminalistics, Forensic Examinations, and Polygraphology is part of the Faculty of Prosecution and Investigation (Criminal Justice) and provides training for full-time and part-time students across all faculties of the National University ‘Odessa Law Academy’.
The department also trains scientific and pedagogical staff for the attainment of the educational and scientific degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the specialty D8 – Law (081 – Law).
The department offers the following courses: Criminalistics, Digital Criminalistics, Forensic Techniques, Tactical and Psychological Foundations of Investigative Activities, Methods of Investigating Criminal Offenses, Detection and Investigation of Corruption-related Crimes, Forensic Examinations, Use of the Polygraph in Law Enforcement Activities, Polygraph, Polygraph and Psychophysiological Personality Diagnostics, Modern Methods of Identification, Psychophysiological Diagnostics and Covert Investigative Methods, Investigative Inspection, Basics of Tactical Medicine, Forensic Medicine and Psychiatry, Audiovisual Psychodiagnostics, Psychology of Criminal Behavior, Extradition: Legal Basis and Tactics, Forensic Science, Life Safety, and others.
The department maintains an archive of educational video materials, which are used in practical classes in criminalistics and specialized courses, as well as for independent student work. Practical exercises and selected lectures in forensic medicine are conducted in specialized classrooms. Visits are organized to the Museum of Forensic Medicine of Odesa Medical University, the Regional Psychiatric Hospital, and Odesa Research Institute of Forensic Examinations.
A distinguishing feature of the department is its close collaboration with law enforcement agencies and forensic institutions, which allows practitioners to participate in teaching and helps students develop a realistic understanding of the future profession. Students have the opportunity to participate in academic-scientific clubs, polygraph training sessions, and interdepartmental scientific seminars. To deepen their training, educational role-playing games and criminalistics quests are conducted, simulating the work of investigative-operational teams and fostering teamwork and creative thinking skills.
Thanks to this multifaceted approach, the Department of Criminalistics, Forensic Examinations, and Polygraphology combines classical academic traditions with innovative methodologies, creating conditions for training highly qualified specialists capable of effectively working in the field of criminal justice.
