The Department of Political Theories goes back to May 1994, when the Department od Social Theories was established at the Law Institute of Odesa State I. Mechnikov University with the aim of providing a comprehensive approach to educational programs and scientific developments, coordinating the process of studying legal and social courses; since then it has developed its traditions. In 1997, the entire department was transferred to Odesa State Law Academy, which had been formed as a result of reorganization of the Law Institute of Odesa State I. Mechnikov University.
In August 2016 the Department of Social Theories was renamed as the Department of Political Theories. Today, there are 14 lectures at the Department, among them there are four Doctors of Law and ten Candidates of Law Sciences.
The department teaches the courses for students majoring in "Political Science", "Sociology", "Law" and "Journalism". The courses provided by the department include: Socio-political Processes, History of Ukrainian Culture, Fundamental Principles of Political Theory, Theories of Political Systems, Theory of Political Representation, Theories and Models of Democracy, State Policy for Family and Youth, Social and Political Mechanisms for Human Rights Protection in Ukraine, Methodology of Political Research and Political Analysis, Applied Political Analysis, Models and Mechanisms of Political Power, Comparative Political Science, Theory of Political Conflict, Party Systems and Political Parties, Political Elites and Leadership, Political Ideologies and Political Ethics, Theoretical Foundations of Elections within the Political Process, Geopolitics, Political Management, Ethnopolitics, Political Technologies, Political Strategies of Modern Ukraine, Social Policy of the State, Regional Policy Mechanisms, Parity Democracy, Priorities of the Modern World Political Process, Ecopolitics Theory, National Security in Globalization Conditions, Lobbying Theory and Foreign Experience of Lobbying, International Organizations in Modern World Politics. All training courses are aimed at forming a modern outlook of young people and socializing the personality, understanding the sense of the political process in Ukraine and the world.
