The Department of Journalism at the Faculty of Journalism of the National University "Odesa Law Academy" organized an international seminar titled "For A Strong Digital Europe: Integrating Research into Policy" in collaboration with the Ukrainian Institute for Crisis Management and Conflict Resolution NGO. The seminar was conducted from 3-5 November.
The seminar was held at the National University "Odesa Law Academy" within the framework of the project "Towards a More Secure Digital Europe: Multilevel Governance for Countering Online Disinformation and Hybrid Threats", funded by the Jean Monnet Programme of the European Union. The seminar was simultaneously streamed online on ZOOM, which allowed qualified scholars and young teachers on European security issues, advanced students, young media professionals and cybersecurity organisations, and representatives of civil society groups to participate in the seminar in various formats - from individual presentations to roundtable discussions, simulation games and case studies.
According to the event organiser, Doctor of Public Administration, Professor of the Department of Journalism at the National University "Odesa Law Academy", Professor Tetiana Maliarenko, the seminar was aimed at improving the strategy and practice of policy-making in the European Union and partner countries in combating massive online disinformation campaigns, hybrid threats and propaganda of war, as well as strengthening cooperation between academic, political, media and civil society groups. "Given that effective EU-Ukraine cooperation in countering hybrid threats online is of great importance for both the academic, political community and civil society, I think it is important that the seminar programme combined scientific and applied content jointly developed by Ukrainian and European experts," said Tetiana Malyarenko.
The seminar was conducted in adherence to the current quarantine rules and regulations. The roundtable discussions were attended by the students of the Master's degree program in International Journalism and other master's programs of the university, while the students of the Bachelor's degree program in Journalism from 2nd to 4th year participated in online mode.
