On November 26, 2020, the National University "Odessa Law Academy" hosted an online course of lectures with Professor of the University of Graz, coordinator of the project "CRIMHUM" Thomas Kryussmann.

Thomas Krussmann is a Senior Expert Adviser at Lansky, Ganzger + Parnter in Vienna, Doctor of Laws (Dr. Iur., University of Hamburg, Germany), Doctor of Habilitation in Eastern European Law (Dr. habil., University of Passau, Germany), LL. M in Commercial and Corporate Law (Kings College, London, UK). President of the Association for European Studies in the Caucasus.

The meeting took the form of lectures with the opportunity to ask the professor questions in order to further initiate a meaningful discussion on human rights in the context of EU criminal law. In more detail, the lecture discussed historical aspects of the emergence of human rights concepts, as well as the development of an appropriate level of criminal protection. The social, economic and political factors of the formation of modern criminal law were highlighted. In addition to the historical perspective, the current state of European case law in this area, innovations and challenges, which are currently seen in human rights activities in Europe as a whole, were further revealed.

The second part of the event was devoted to the analysis of certain aspects of the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in the criminal law dimension, as it is a kind of foundation for understanding and deepening students' knowledge in the field of fundamental rights. Professor Thomas Kreussman highlighted several judgments of the Court, during which the audience had the opportunity to understand the real state of affairs and to analyze how specific states are complying with their obligations.

This project of the ERASMUS + KA2 program is aimed at modernizing master's programs for future judges, prosecutors, investigators, taking into account European human rights standards.
