Traditionally, at the beginning of September, first-year students of the National University "Odesa Law Academy" undergo a series of study tours in the University's scientific library.
In order to fulfil the work plan of the scientific club on the History of State and Law of Ukraine and Foreign Countries, as well as to conduct educational and advisory work in the student centre, a joint educational and methodological event was held on 18 September 2023 with the first-year bachelor's degree students of the faculties of
- Criminal Justice,
- Civil and Commercial Justice,
- Advocacy and Anti-Corruption,
- Judicial and International Law
with the specialists of the Scientific Library of the National University "Odesa Law Academy" to get acquainted with the rules of using library funds and placing orders for scientific literature.
The event was attended by more than 120 participants, who for the first time got acquainted with the rules of use of the Scientific Library of the National University "OLA".
At the beginning of the meeting, Associate Professor Nataliia Yefremova briefly introduced the history of the library and focused on the important role of the university library in providing information services to students.
In the course of the event, Tetyana Ivaniichuk, Director of the Scientific Library of the National University "OLA", made a thematic presentation with a detailed explanation of the potential capabilities of a modern university library and its place in the educational, scientific and educational processes at the University.
The students got acquainted with the rules of use and the structure of the library, which has been operating as a hybrid model for many years, combining traditional library services and electronic library services. The advantages of quick access to the library's electronic resources (electronic catalogue, institutional repository, etc.) and the organisation of online consulting and online user service by library specialists were presented. This form of organisation of the library's work makes it possible to meet the needs of higher education students who study remotely due to the difficult circumstances caused by the martial law in Ukraine.
According to T. Ivaniichuk, an important component of the library's work is also the provision of access to external electronic resources (subscription electronic resources funded by the state budget (Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect), open access electronic resources (CambridgeCore; Research Track; SSRN; SAGE; ProQuest; Mendeley; Google Scholar) and test access electronic resources (Bentham Science; RapidILL; Research4Life, etc.). With the assistance of the library, free and long-term access to high-quality online learning on the Coursera for Campus platform was provided for the National University of Law at http://surl.li/cmqmq, which was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Therefore, every student today can gain additional knowledge and opportunities.
At the request of the 1st year students of the Faculty of Judicial and International Law, T. Ivaniichuk held an additional master class on searching for information in the electronic catalogue of the ABIS Unilib in the reading room.
The staff of the Scientific Library invited everyone to make a library card for permanent use of the library services and to join various events held by the library together with the scientific club on the History of the State and Law of Ukraine and foreign countries.
Summing up the meeting, the organisers of the event wished all the students success in their studies and announced the next meeting in the reading room on 29.10.23 on the occasion of the Librarian's Day and the 450th anniversary of the foundation of Ivan Fedorov's printing house in Lviv. In their turn, the students thanked the organisers for explaining the important rules and traditions of this University unit and noted the importance of such events.
