On 25 June 2024, at the initiative of Daria MINCHENKO, Head of the International Relations Department, the National University of Odesa Law Academy hosted an international roundtable discussion on "Constitutional Human Rights in Transition".
In order to stimulate and promote the development of science in Ukraine, strengthen international cooperation in the field of education and science, and taking into account the need to promote the use of English as one of the languages of international communication throughout Ukraine, the event was held in English.
The special guest was Enrico ALBANESI, Professor of Constitutional Law at the Law Department of the University of Genoa (Italy). Professor Albanese's keynote speech was devoted to the conditions for derogation and restriction of rights provided by the European Convention on Human Rights during times of transition.
The topic of implementation and protection of constitutional rights was covered from different aspects, as the event was attended by representatives of all law departments of our university. Thus, Natalia MISHYNA, Professor of the Department of Constitutional Law, Doctor of Law, Professor, and Researcher at the SAGE Laboratory of the University of Strasbourg (France), delivered a report on "Municipalisation of Human Rights: the Role of Local and Regional Authorities in the Implementation of ECHR Judgments"; Viacheslav TULIAKOV, Professor of the Department of Criminal Law, Doctor of Law, Professor, Visiting Professor at the University "IE" (Spain), delivered a report on "The Right to Derogate and Freedom of Movement". Associate professors of the Department of Organisation of Judicial, Law Enforcement and Advocacy made presentations on "Modern Problems of Realisation of the Constitutional Right to Judicial Protection in Ukraine" (PhD Maryna KRAVCHENKO) and "Implementation of the Right to Defence under Martial Law" (PhD, Associate Professor Iryna KISLITSYNA).
Karina KARAKHANIAN, Associate Professor of the Department of Agrarian, Land and Environmental Law, PhD, Associate Professor, presented the topic "Legal Regulation of Ensuring Energy Security as one of the Constitutional Human Rights", and Viktor ZAVTUR, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure, PhD, Associate Professor, presented the topic "The Right of a Person not to Testify against Close Relatives and Family Members: Ukrainian Law and Foreign Experience".
Young researchers of the National University "Odesa Law Academy" also joined the discussion, namely: postgraduate students of the Department of Judicial, Law Enforcement and Advocacy Karina BUHAENKO with the topic "The influence of external and internal factors of the state on the cyclical development of the constitution", Anastasia IGNATOVA with the topic "Cooperation between the EU and Ukraine in the field of protection of the rights of national minorities: challenges and prospects", as well as Viktor MOZHALOV, a postgraduate student of the Department of Constitutional Law, on the topic "The Constitutional Right to Self-Defence in terms of the Right to Own Weapons in the Transition Period".
The event was supported by the President of the National University "Odesa Law Academy", Academician Sergiy KIVALOV and with the assistance of the Faculty of Civil and Commercial Justice.
