On 13 September 2024, the National University ‘Odesa Law Academy’ was honoured to receive the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, Mr Nguyen Hong Thach. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Honorary Counsellor of the Embassy of Vietnam in Ukraine, Professor Andriy Gorchakov, and the representative of the Honorary Consulate of Vietnam in Odesa, Mr Nguyen Hung.

The meeting of the distinguished guests was attended by the President of the National University ‘Odesa Law Academy’ Sergiy Kivalov, the Rector of the University Oleg Todoshchak, the Head of the International Relations Office Daria Minchenko, and the Rector of the International Humanitarian University Kostiantyn Hromovenko.

During his visit, Mr Nguyen Hong Thach emphasised the long-standing friendly relations between Ukraine and Vietnam and expressed support for the Ukrainian people in the fight against Russian aggression. He also noted that Odesa and Odesa region have become home to the largest Vietnamese diaspora in Ukraine, which dates back several generations. Many representatives of this community are educated in Ukrainian universities, including the National University ‘Odesa Law Academy.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of deepening cooperation between Ukraine and Vietnam in the educational, scientific and cultural spheres. The President of the University Sergiy Kivalov emphasised the importance of developing international relations for the NU “OLA” and told about the achievements of the University. He noted that NU “OLA” is one of the leading higher education institutions in Ukraine, which was the first among Ukrainian universities to return to the offline learning format due to its developed infrastructure and material and technical base.

They also discussed the possibilities of attracting Vietnamese students to study at the university. Both sides expressed confidence that further cooperation will help strengthen ties between Ukraine and Vietnam and open new horizons for educational and scientific development.
